AdvEnt - supporting social enterprise in the East Midlands

New and emerging social enterprises across the East Midlands are to be given a boost by a new programme of accredited enterprise development training. The Groundwork East Midlands programme, Advancing Entrepreneurs is supported by the European Social Fund and the Open College Network and consists of 7 individual learning units: Business and Action Planning, Statutory Health and Safety Policy, Statutory Employment Policy, Understanding Legal Structures, Marketing your Business, Managing Capital Projects and Continuous Improvement for Community Enterprise.

The programme aims to support the development of social enterprises by:
  • Enabling them to deliver on their aims and objectives sustainably while achieving a greater level of prosperity and growth.
  • Positioning them so that they are able to more confidently access mainstream business support provision as a further aid to stimulating entrepreneurship.
  • Helping to build capacity, share best practice and foster an entrepreneurial spirit by delivering a carefully tailored support programme.
Training sessions will be delivered by sector experts at Groundwork centres throughout the two-year project starting in March 2006. Each of the six East Midlands Groundwork Trusts will deliver the units attracting up to a 1,000 learners from 200 social enterprises and voluntary organisations.
